What is Elder Law?
Elder law is a broad term that describes many different legal needs for older individuals and their living situations, the need for additional caregivers, health-care decision-making, financial planning, and how to pay for additional long-term care later in life.
Most people wish to stay in their homes and “age in place” rather than give up their independence and move to an adult foster home or assisted-living facility. But as we age, we may need assistance with the “activities of daily living,” which includes bathing, hygiene, transporting and mobility within the home, and cognition. It may not be possible to practically “age in place,” and an elder law attorney can help you with planning.
The sooner you start to consider the need for additional care and aging in place, the greater the likelihood that an elder law attorney can help you review your options to pay for additional care through planning with such tools as long-term care insurance, retirement asset planning, Medicaid asset protection trusts, personal care contracts, and healthcare and financial decision making when you are no longer able to make these decisions for yourself.
An Elder Law attorney can compassionately assist you and your family on how you can meet the costs of caregiving and the availability and qualification for Medicaid or Veterans Administration benefits or how to best protect your assets when it comes time to do crisis–care.
Protect what matters most to you with your Elder Law needs.
