If you want to donate organs or tissue — including if you are gay or lesbian — Florida gives you clear ways to say yes. You do not need a complicated form to get started.

Step 1: Register

Go to DonateLifeFlorida.org and register. Or mark yourself as an organ donor when you get or renew your Florida driver license or ID card. Either way records your wish.

Step 2: Tell people

Tell your spouse or partner, your kids, and the person who makes health decisions for you. Written wishes are powerful in Florida, but talking about them helps avoid family conflict at a hard time.

Step 3: Put it with your estate plan

When we do wills, trusts, and advance directives, we can also cover anatomical gifts and what should happen to your body. That way your paperwork matches your registry choice.

Step 4: If you want whole-body donation

Call the Anatomical Board of the State of Florida and complete their dedication forms. Tell your funeral home to call the Board when the time comes. This is separate from the organ-donor checkbox on your license.

A note for LGBTQ+ families

Gay and lesbian people can and do donate. Registering is allowed. Make sure the people who will speak for you know your wishes, especially if some relatives might not support them. Clear writing protects your choice.
